| The garden in Charlton was virtually a free canvas. Many established plants were removed, the ground levelled and cleared to create the raised sleepers beds, a new lawn and a shingled area at the back ready for seating. |

| This crumbling back wall was re-rendered and painted in sandstone to pick out the new foliage of the remaining photinus, newly-pruned and now free of overcrowding shrubs and acting as fitting centerpiece. |
